SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS: The Grace University Royals traveled to play the Robert Morris University Eagles on Saturday, February 10. Going into the game, the Royals were 13-12, one win away from securing their bid for the regional tournament. After being up 28-20 at halftime, the Royals won the game 80-49 to improve their record to 14-12.
The Royals never allowed the Eagles to lead, grabbing an early 5-0 lead and increasing it to as many as 8 points at 12-4 in the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Royals were up 14-8; they went on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of the second quarter to bring the score to 21-8. With two minutes left in the first half, the Royals led 26-13; the Eagles closed the half with a 7-2 run to make it an 8 point game as 28-20.
In the third quarter, the Royals held onto their lead as the two teams exchanged baskets. By the end of the third, the Royals led 49-41. In the fourth quarter, the Royals went on a 9-0 run to build their lead up to 17 points at 58-41; they continued to build up their lead, outscoring the Eagles 21-8 in the fourth quarter to win the game 80-49.
The Royals shot 47.8% from the field (32 of 67), 30.4% from the 3-point line (7 of 23), and 60% from the free throw line (9 of 15). Grace grabbed 55 rebounds and had 15 assists and 10 steals. The Royals also had 9 second-chance points and 50 points in the paint.
Karen Orozco led the Royals in scoring with 30 points; she also had 4 assists and 3 steals. Darielle Evans had her third double-double of the season with 29 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Tschida Johnson had 8 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. Marisa Brown had 5 points and 8 rebounds, while Alyssa Strickland had 4 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds.
