Women’s Basketball: Grace Falls to the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA: The Royals traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, to play the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves on Wednesday, November 29.  After being down 36-58 at halftime, the Royals lost to the Prairie Wolves 62-112, falling to a 4-5 record for the season. 

The Royals scored the first basket of the game with a layup from Jasmine White.  Three minutes into the game, the Royals led 6-4; the Prairie Wolves went on a 15-0 run to gain an 11-point lead over the Royals at 8-19.  The Royals came within 8 points of the Prairie Wolves with just under a minute left in the quarter at 18-26; at the end of the first quarter, the score was 18-28.  The Royals kept the Prairie Wolves from increasing their lead to more than 15 points for the first seven minutes of the second quarter; with three minutes left in the half, the Royals were only down 14 at 33-47.  The Prairie Wolves went on an 11-3 run to close the half, leaving the score at 36-58. 

The Prairie Wolves continued on their run in the first three and a half minutes of the second half, scoring 10 points while keeping the Royals from scoring until Darielle Evans made a 3-pointer to bring the score to 39-68 and cut the Prairie Wolves' lead to 29 points.  The Royals kept the Prairie Wolves from going on another run until the second half; at the end of the third quarter, the Royals were down by 31 at 50-81.  In the fourth quarter, the Royals continued to play evenly with the Prairie Wolves; with just under 7 minutes left in the game, the Royals were only down 29 at 60-89.  The Prairie Wolves went on a 23-2 run in the last six minutes of the game, and the Royals fell 62-112. 

The Royals shot 35.8% from the field (24 of 67), 33.3% from the 3-point line (9 of 27), and 50% from the free throw line (5 of 10), while the Prairie Wolves shot 47.4% from the field (46 of 97), 35.5% from the 3-point line (11 of 31), and 50% from the free throw line (9 of 18). 

Four of the Royals scored in double digits.  Karen Orozco had 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists; Darielle Evans contributed 15 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.  Tschida Johnson had a season-high 13 points and 7 rebounds; Marisa Brown was one rebound away from a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds. 

Four of the Prairie Wolves also scored in double digits: Caitlin Navratil had 19 points, Addie Wetzel had 15 points and 20 rebounds, Morgan Nishida had 13 points, and Kate Schulte had 10 points and 8 rebounds. 

UP NEXT: The Royals will travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to play Emmaus Bible College on Friday, December 1, starting at 5 p.m.
