Women’s Basketball: Grace Falls to Mt. Marty College 48-74

OMAHA, NEBRASKA: The Royals played their second game of the season at home against the Mt. Marty Lancers, who are members of the GPAC, on Wednesday, November 1.  After being down by 18 at 35-17 at halftime, the Royals lost the game 48-74. 

The Royals struggled in the first half against Mt. Marty.  The Lancers started the game with an 11-3 run in the first five minutes of the game.  After losing a starter to an injury six minutes into the game, the Royals still managed to dwindle the Lancers' lead to 1 point at 12-13 with two minutes left in the first quarter, but by the end of the quarter, the Royals were down 12-20.  The Royals allowed the Lancers to go on an 8-0 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter to bring the score to 12-28; the Lancers continued to build up their lead until they led 17-35 at halftime. 

The Royals played a little better in the third quarter, trimming the Lancers' lead down to as few as 13 points at 31-44 with 3 minutes left in the quarter.  The Royals went into the fourth quarter down 31-47; a 3-pointer from guard Darielle Evans brought the Royals within 9 points of the Lancers at 49-40 with 7 minutes left in the quarter.  The Lancers responded with an 11-2 run that proved to be fatal to the Royals, bringing the score to 42-60 with just over four minutes left to play.  By the end of the game, the Royals were down 48-74. 

The Royals shot 28.6% from the field and 33.3% from the 3-point line.  They also shot 85.7% from the free throw line and grabbed 41 rebounds, 17 offensive and 24 defensive.  Junior Marisa Brown had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds; Darielle Evans had 15 points and 5 rebounds.  Alyssa Strickland contributed 9 points and 5 rebounds while Tschida Johnson contributed 5 points and 9 rebounds. 

Molly Koisti was the Lancers' leading scorer with 10 points; Megan Hirsch had 9 points and 9 rebounds while Danielle Webster contributed 9 points.
