OMAHA, NEBRASKA: Coach Kliewer and the men's basketball team are proud to announce the signing of Colby Johnson, a 6'2" junior guard transferring to Grace from Lassen Community College in Susanville, California. Johnson, the son of Greg Johnson and Theresa Huigen, is from Denver, Colorado, and graduated from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, Colorado, in 2014. He plans to major in communication at Grace and is an avid golfer. Johnson says that he chose Grace University to continue both his athletic career playing basketball and his academic career.
While playing basketball at Smoky Hill High School under Coach Kennon Clement, Johnson was awarded All-Conference Honorable Mention. After high school, Johnson attended William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he played basketball during the 2014-15 season. Johnson continued his basketball career at Lassen Community College in California during the 2016-17 season, where he averaged 10.5 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. He shot 45.1% from the field, 38.9% from the 3-point line, and 85% from the free throw line. Johnson received 1st Team All-Conference Honors.
"From a basketball standpoint, Colby is a tall, scoring guard who brings a ton of athleticism to the team," says Coach Kliewer, the head men's basketball coach at Grace. "He has a good range but can also get to the hoop and score. He comes from Lassen Community College, where his coach spoke very highly of him from a character standpoint. This last year at Lassen, Colby won the Marlon Hall Jr. Memorial Award for his outstanding character, leadership, passion, enthusiasm, and teamwork. Looking forward to seeing Colby on campus and on the court this fall!"
